FAQ: AITUTAKI

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: Why travel with Life Aquatic Expeditions?

A: Owners, Dr. Lei Lani Stelle and Shane Keena, MFA, will personally lead this expedition to Aitutaki in the Cook Islands of the South Pacific, and have extensive experience in this region. Lei Lani has studied marine mammals for over 30 years, including research focused on humpback whales.  Shane is an award-winning wildlife photographer and professional artist, who has photographed marine life throughout the Pacific from New Zealand to Alaska.

Both have traveled to the South Pacific multiple times for the unique opportunity to swim with humpback whales.  Lei Lani will provide insight into the natural history, scientific research, and conservation efforts while Shane will document your thrilling encounters and share photo tips.

Q: Is this trip right for me?

A: Snorkeling with humpback whales is an incredible and unique experience. It does require comfort in the water; you don't need to be a competitive swimmer but do need to be able to enter the water from the boat and get back on board via the ladder.  Experience snorkeling is important but can be gained from practice in a pool.

Only a minimum levels of physical fitness is required but you should consider your comfort in small boats and susceptibility to seasickness.

Keep in mind that we will be in remote areas, far from US medical facilities.
